Jam river watershed in Sinnar taluka is a highly drought prone watershed. This watershed falls in the rain shadow region of the Sahyadri mountain range. Few decades ago this river was perennial. In recent years due to climatic changes, continuous drought and dry spells, the flow of Jam River has been affected and now it hardly flows. Sustaining incomes from dry land agriculture is a major challenge for poor and marginalized farmers. Most farmers migrate as laborers due to drought-like conditions.

To bridge above gaps, to ensure drinking water availability in catchment villages and to improve socio economical condition of farmers living in Jam River catchment area, the project works on inclusive area development program including drinking and irrigation water, agriculture and agri allied work as a concrete and sustainable solution. The aim of this project is to enable socio economic development of the rural society by ensuring water and livelihood security in Jam River catchment area with major focus on increasing water holding capacity of the existing water bodies through desilting work, drinking water security throughout the year, water availability for Kharif crop, introducing improved varieties of pulses/oilseeds, protective irrigation, creating livelihood opportunities through agri allied activities, tree plantation and in situ water conservation etc.

The project covers 20 villages of Sinnar Block and around 11610 families.
