AREAS OF OPERATION: 5 VILLAGES IN NANDURBAR BLOCK, NANDURBAR DISTRICT

Overview:

The Jal Samvardhan Project focuses on water conservation and resource management in five villages of Nandurbar District. The project builds on the WADI model, addressing the critical need for water availability to support agriculture, plantations, and drinking water. The initiative is aimed at ensuring water security while promoting socio-economic development within the tribal community.

Project Objectives:

  • Water Security: Ensure a steady water supply for agriculture, plantations, and drinking purposes.
  • Increase Income: Boost the income of marginal farmers by enhancing irrigation and adopting improved agricultural practices.
  • Sustainable Natural Resource Management: Build the community’s capacity to sustainably manage their natural resources.

Through the Jal Samvardhan Project, significant strides have been made in increasing water security and empowering communities with the skills and knowledge needed to sustainably manage water resources, contributing to the overall well-being of tribal households.

Key Achievements:

  • Developed comprehensive water security plans for all five villages.
  • Desilted existing water bodies, including percolation tanks and deepened nalas, creating 8,700 cubic meters of additional water storage capacity.
  • Organized 10 training and capacity-building events on water management and agriculture across the five villages.

Outcomes and Impact:

Enhanced Awareness: Local farmers gained critical knowledge on efficient water management practices, leading to improved water conservation and utilization.
