Thakar Vasti, a small hamlet of Jaulake BK Gram Panchayat, faced severe water scarcity for years. The village’s seepage pond had fallen into disrepair, clogged with 2,670 cubic meters of silt. Every summer, the wells would dry up, forcing villagers to walk 4-5 kilometers to fetch water. Many families even migrated to escape the harsh conditions.
In response to this crisis, TATA Autocomp, with the support of TATA Water Mission and Yuva Mitra, launched an ambitious project to revive the seepage pond. The collective effort involved removing the accumulated silt and repairing the lake. The impact was almost immediate. The water levels in the wells began to rise, signalling a positive change and a hopeful future for the village.
Thanks to these collaborative efforts, Thakar Vasti is now prepared to face the summer months with confidence, their water needs assured. The once-neglected percolated lake has been transformed into a vibrant source of life that nourishes the village and its people.
