Maharashtra is facing severe rainfall deficit and drought situation. 12, 000 villages in central and western Maharashtra have been facing drought for the last couple of years. More than 3,000,000 families are reeling under the shock of the worst drought in 40 years.
Yuva Mitra identified the critical issues of water and started working with community to resolve the issues since 2008. Currently Yuva Mitra has implemented three projects in water resource development namely regeneration of diversion based irrigation system, Jal Samruddhi se Unnati (Drought Proofing) and Catchment area development of Jam River which focuses on reviving and maintaining existing water structures in the area to ensure water availability for drinking as well as irrigation purpose.
